Eric Ries published The Lean Startup back in 2011 and since then, it has become the standard for businesses across the globe for getting out minimum viable products (MVP) to their market for testing. In addition, caused-focused nonprofits and social enterprises have been using the principles outlined in Ries’ book to test pilot programs and campaigns for decades. But there is a bigger opportunity for world-changing organizations to practice these principles on a more consistent basis to achieve even greater impact for their cause.

Our Director of User Experience, Matt Kelley, recently joined up with the Web of Change community to discuss organizational challenges nonprofits face while trying to “go lean” and co-authored a great piece over at Mob Lab around how to overcome the three biggest blockers:

Hurdle #1: Our leadership insists on sticking to our three-year strategic plan, which doesn’t leave room to iterate.

Hurdle #2: We’re measuring the wrong things.

Hurdle #3: My organization will never let itself fail in public.
