Orbis is one of the leading organizations fully dedicated to treating and preventing blindness around the world through hands-on training, advocacy, and research. This mission has broad implications: those without access to quality eye-care struggle with employment, education, and mobility. BSD is proud to partner with Orbis in growing its 32-year legacy with a digital experience full of clarity, focus, and humanity.
We started by reimagining Orbis.org—an important tool for an organization with a global presence and fundraising goals. Leading with a crucial question—why vision?—the site’s goal is to make it pretty clear, pretty quickly what’s at stake in eye-health and -care. And then it asks visitors to take action.
Orbis has countless assets from its decades in the field. One of the coolest? The world’s only Flying Eye Hospital, a repurposed cargo plane donated by FedEx that serves as a fully-equipped, mobile teaching hospital. We were especially excited to develop an interactive feature with 360 degree views and powerful still photography that brings people inside the Flying Eye Hospital—from the operating theatre to the recovery room to the classroom where local healthcare professionals connect for lectures and discussion.
Another challenge? A global footprint. Because Orbis works in so many countries, it was important that the site experience reflect its reach. We developed a responsive site that visitors will be able to access around the world, on any type of device, and in multiple languages.
